A C-36 Plumbing License
Anyone applying to be a Plumbing Contractor in California must provide proof of four years of experience at the journeyman level. So, if you ask?

Two years must be spent in the work area, although the experience can be completely hands-on or up to two years in a college or vocational training program that has been approved. 4 years total. Depends on your state’s requirements.
APPLYING FOR a C-36 LICENSE:
Journeyman plumbers can apply for a Contractor’s License once they have accrued the necessary work experience. In a sense, you are applying to take the test.
THE APPLICATION PROCESSING FEE MUST BE PAID: $450 is needed for the Original Application.
Your application, this payment, and any additional supporting documents must be mailed to CSLB Headquarters in Sacramento. You may find all of the forms’ complete instructions and mailing addresses.
Original Application (exam or waiver for one classification), $450 ; Initial License Fee (Sole Owner), $200 ; Initial License Fee (Non-Sole Owner), $350.
The licensing exam will include a trade exam and a law and business test. All new license applicants must also pass the asbestos open-book exam after taking and passing the Trade and Law & Business Exam.
COMPLETE CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: All candidates must do a criminal background check and reveal any plea agreements or convictions. You must also consent to take your fingerprints in compliance with California law.
25,000 Bond Requirement
FILE EITHER EVIDENCE OF WORKERS’ COMPENSATION INSURANCE OR AN EXEMPTION FROM THE REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must submit insurance proof. The workers’ compensation insurer makes the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Certificate available.
A contractor’s bond for $25,000 must be presented as proof for a license to be granted or renewed. The bond is put up to benefit consumers who could have been harmed by subpar construction or other license violations and employees who haven’t received their rightful compensation.
