Several Features of a Water Heater

The first thing to remember is that, based on your particular demands, a wide variety of water heating techniques are available.

Here, at American Plumbing Co., the Best Residential Plumbing Repair Company.

A brief summary of some of the characteristics of water heaters.

Thermostatic Relief Valve

A 40-gallon tank of heated water can grow by more than half a gallon. The extra volume will have nowhere to go if your tank is already at capacity, leading to higher pressure inside the inner system.

The temperature release valve lets this extra pressure escape. Each valve has a thermostat submerged in the top six inches of the tank’s water.

Seismic Straps

In seismic regions where earthquakes are frequent, it is advised by building codes that water heaters be braced to the wall to prevent damage.

The straps should be attached to wood-blocking strips fastened to the next wall to secure the water tank adequately. This secures the water heater using sturdy steel brackets as support.

Safety Pans

A strong, heat-resistant drain pan should be positioned beneath the water heater in enclosed spaces. This will shield your floor from any damage caused by pressure valve runoffs or water heater leaks.

Water Heater Enclosure

A water heater enclosure is for an outdoor installation. It is for exterior installations. These come in 24″ and 30″ galvanized units. The size depends on the water heater to be installed.

Bollards

This last one is optional, which I have seen done. Just another extra safety factor. This post will protect from a vehicle hitting the water heater stand.

You could take precautions to guard your water heater against physical damage from your car if you’ve installed it in your garage. Bollards can be purchased at any nearby hardware store, typically around 4″ in diameter and 36″ high.

Your bollard must be composed of an impact-resistant material and bright enough to be visible from all angles.
