Although the Best Methods may sometimes take more time. And always purchasing the best quality materials. Cost More. BUT IT IS ALWAYS BEST.

And when connecting to the city (a city tie-in), experience is needed. They sometimes have clay sewer pipes, usually at the property line.

Common Causes of ABS Pipe Line Damage

For a Long Duration of Plastic Piping. The piping must be kept from the sun (UV rays melt or bend the pipe), so it is always installed underground. (Something I remember I was told in class in 1984 or 1985.

Although metal pipe can be Installed above ground, or rather a cast-iron pipe, Copper piping can be used outside (copper D.W.V. Pipe). But I would go with cast iron for an exterior sewer line installation.

Primarily not installed on rock(s), but on sand or soft dirt for the pipe to remain in good condition. A Minimum of around 50+ years is the minimum life expectancy. The lifetime of ABS is similar to cast iron; I would say, depending on the installation, if installed carefully, it can last 50+ years.

Signs of Drainage Line Damage

A couple of indicators are when you have a main line problem. Foul smell.

Unable to use the plumbing, and the plumbing clogs often. Especially if it is an older sewer line and readily accessible (a raised foundation), it might be a good idea instead of waiting until it backups up.

If the piping is older than 50 + years that in all likely hood, it is always recommended that maybe the best course of action is to Replace it with new A.B.S.. or at the bare minimum, if accessible, replace sections instead of replacing all the sewer piping.

Otherwise, you may be looking at a sudden and unexpected drain problem down the road. But this applies to older homes.

Although I have occasionally removed sewer piping (cast iron piping) 70+ years old, which was still slightly usable.

I have also uncovered CLAY & Concrete drains close to 70 + years old! That was in really good condition.

Types of Sewer Lines

There are several types of sewer systems. The most common one that we use is called the sanitary system. These are all the piping that is in your home.

Like the bathroom piping, kitchen drainage, and laundry or wastewater plumbing.

And the second is called the stormwater system. This is all the piping to the runoff when it rains. These are mostly two separate drainage systems.

ABS Plastic Piping: Is The Best Material.

Sewer Line Repair, San Diego: The most economical form of installation of sewer pipes is plastic piping (A.B.S. piping).  I will mention some common problems when installing plastic piping.

When Installing a New line in San Diego. ABS Plastic Piping. Apply Best Practices:

Sewer Line Repair San Diego Services. I always check the grade (the pitch or the fall or called the drop) with a torpedo level Code that says a 1/4″ of an inch per foot for 3″ abs piping and 1/8″ of an inch for 4″ inch abs piping.

Although this seems common sense, you would be surprised how many drains.

I have seen that were installed having a very little grade. (The Drop) Or worse yet, not only flat but had even been installed with a back pitch. (Lack of checking with a Torpedo Level every couple of feet. Just barely breaking the bubble on a torpedo level.)

And if Not Well Checked. The Drains can give you problems. That is Why it is IMPORTANT To Double check.

And even Triple check the drain line.

As I said, I always try to use the 1/4″ inch grade or drop per foot.

That is what I always have done in Hotels, Motels, and Custom Homes. This San Diego Plumber also Recommends checking your local San Diego Plumbing Repair Building Requirements before installing. Or locate some Affordable, Well experienced plumbers—Free Estimates for any sewer line problem.

I want to mention that working on your plumbing seems like going to a backroom doctor who is not licensed. Or changing the car brakes without the proper training.

Would You Go to an Unlicensed Physician for an Emergency Health Problem?

Deviating from proper Best Practices. Because either to save money or Time, or inexperience by not installing correctly can have serious problems in that drainage system by not working adequately.

More Best Practices For an Installation

Any time when installing a drain line in Plumbing, One of the most important things is to have plenty of slope or drop for the drains. But if you cannot give a 1/4″ drop, use a 1/8″ drop.

It is always Recommended to Hire a Professional. Using street fittings or using a Santee on its back as a vent only if that is the only way that it can be done (For a Toilet Installation),

The toilet has the biggest fittings depending on the situation, or a 3 by 2 Wye and a 45 offset for the toilet.

But this should be done only as a last resort. So this way, it will give the venting plenty of air. This way, Best Practices will be applied.

The L.H.O. is the Biggest Fitting for a Drainage Installation

And so also becomes your biggest drop for pulling a measurement or laying out a rough-in measurement for a new construction Hotel or a plumbing project. ( The toilet is Usually a Long Turn 90 along with an L.H.O. ) Always use the least amount of turns and or fittings. (When you have too many turns, this can cause stoppages.

Even when covering the plumbing if buried, it is important to use the first few inches of soft sand and or soft dirt. (Like I said, No Rocks. Using rocks can crack the plastic pipe.)

Always add cleanouts. for any future stoppages. I will usually add several cleanouts.

To Reiterate, This San Diego Plumber Service always recommends calling a professional for any Residential Plumbing Repair Services.

FAQs

What is the nature of the problem?

Having 40+ years of experience will assist in finding and resolving the problem economically.

The nature of the problem is the underlying cause of a particular issue or difficulty.

It is the root of the issue, and understanding the nature of the problem is essential to find a solution.

In some cases, the nature of the problem is obvious, while in others, it may be more complex and require more time.

For instance, while Plumbing in San Diego, I encountered drains with roots. And at other times, they just stopped working or draining.

When trying to identify the nature of a problem, it is important to consider the context in which it exists. Is there another way of installing a drain line?

Can it be run outside the house and around the house? Can the part of the drain that is not working be replaced?

How old is the Plumbing? If it is too old, it may have to be all replaced in order to apply Best Practices.

Where will the repair need to be made?

The repair will need to be made in the affected area.

Depending on the type of repair needed, this could be anywhere from the home’s interior to the exterior. If the repair is related to a plumbing issue, it must be made in the area where the plumbing is located.

This could be in the basement, crawl space, or another area of the home. Although I always try to find a way, if possible, by going around the house. Preferably if there is dirt on one of the sides. Then tying into the main in the front yard.

How long will the repairs take?

The answer to this question depends on the type and scope of the sewer repair that needs to be done. It all starts with Scheduling an appointment. Or, at the very least, provide some useful information.

Replacing a section compared to replacing several sections. And also, the accessibility to the piping is another factor.

Generally speaking, the length of time it will take to complete the repairs will depend on the job’s complexity, the availability of parts and materials, the skill level of the technician, and any unforeseen issues that may arise during the repair process.

How will the area be cleaned up afterwards?

We will clean the area after the plumbing repair service. Removing all debris, garbage, and other materials that have been left behind. And will be swept and washed down if it is an exterior installation.

What are the consequences of not repairing?

The consequences of not repairing a sewer line can be severe and far-reaching. The most immediate consequence is raw sewage’s potential to back into the home, leading to an unsanitary and hazardous living environment.

This can lead to various health risks, including exposure to bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can cause serious illnesses.

In addition to health risks, a broken drain can cause structural damage to the home. Give us a call at American Plumbing Company, where we will be glad to discuss the plumbing issue. To see how we can help.

What are the long-term implications of the repairs?

The long-term implications of a sewer repair depend on the repair type. If the repairs are being made to a home or building, the long-term implications could include increased health and safety, increased property value, and improved aesthetics.

What are the alternatives to repairing?

The alternatives to a sewer repair depend on the issue’s severity and the pipe’s location.

If the issue is minor, a drain snake may clear the blockage, such as a small clog.

In other words, if the problem is tree roots. Then snaking it maybe every year and a half is okay.

But if it clogs often? A GOOD IDEA may be to at least have a two-way cleanout installed.

How much will the repairs cost?

Unfortunately, it is impossible to provide an accurate estimate of the cost of repairs without first assessing the extent of the damage and the type of repairs that will be necessary.

Depending on the size and complexity of the repairs, the cost could range from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars.
