Why Does My Toilet Keep Randomly Bubbling?

Question Posted on The Quora Platform.

My response:

There are several possibilities. One is that the vent is not working. All you need to see is if something on the roof might have fallen and covered the main line venting.

For instance, in the bathtub?

You probably have a stoppage. Check that it does not fill up anywhere else, then slowly drain.

Another reason that could be the problem would be the branch, or only a Part of the main line is stopped up.

I remember once there was a stoppage, and I used a plunger, and the main drain became unclogged.

Checking Out The Clean out on the Main Drain Cleaning

To solve this you can either check to see if you have a main drain clean-out and take the cap off and see if their standing water.

If there is, then you will need to snake the drain from this point on out.

Make sure to check that the venting is not covered. Check to see the venting on top of the roof to see if it‘s not covered with something and not getting enough air through.

If you do not have a cleanout then you can snake it from the vent or remove the toilet and snake the drain.

And FYI next time if you do not have a clean out you might want to consider this a project for your next plumbing repair?

Although removing the toilet is something I rarely ever do Because this can get pretty messy.

It is Always recommended to let a Professional do the work.

Main Line Drain Cleaning

There are several ways or methods to unclog a Main Drain Line.

First of all you can rent a machine at the Home Depot. I always go there. For purchasing material etc.

I go to the Home Depot a lot.

Anyways at the Home Depot go to the Tool Rental (not all Home Depot’s Have a Tool rental)

There you will find a Main Line machine with 5/8 inch cable.

I cannot say THIS ENOUGH. I Definitely Recommend that you Hire a Professional. Because the cable can Hurt you if you do not know how to use The MACHINE.

Okay so once you have the machine if you have a Main Line Clean out just slowly feed the cable (MAKING SURE TO USE A GOOD PAIR OF GLOVES!).

This is a Two Man Job. One to hold the drain machine. The other to feed the cable on the clean out.

If  There is not a clean out you may have to remove the toilet (And This can Get Messy. That is why I do not remove the toilet.)

I Hope this Helps
